Adding a Touch of Sparkle to your Wedding!

Glitter. Such a fabulous thing. Who doesn’t want their big day to sparkle? From the dress to the ring to the decorations, you can’t go wrong with sparkle.

Glitter is a great thing to add to almost anything in your wedding and easy to do yourself. The possibilities are endless and you can add a mega amount of glitter for a sparkly diva inspired day or some subtle touches for a softer romantic look.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to incorporate some glitter into your big day:

First off, meet Mod Podge. This will be your new best friend for all glitter related projects.

Once you’re acquainted with Mod Podge you can begin the glittering. One of my favorites is just a simple glittered vase. They can be perfect for centerpieces if you’re looking to save money there or maybe as some cocktail hour centerpieces. You can do so many great things with these from filling them with flowers or candles and using any type of glitter you desire.

These are quite easy to create, you simply tape off where you would like the glitter to stop and then apply your Mod Podge to that area. Then you can glitter away! Afterward it’s best to apply Mod Podge over the top or an adhesive spray to seal it and keep it from leaving a trail of glitter everywhere.

Glitter is awesome and you can use it in so many great ways and on so many things. You can create patterns or an ombre effect or use it as a filler for flowers or candles. Here is a few more of my favorite glittered pieces.

Did you know there are ceremonies inside the ceremony?

Many of us when we mention the wedding ceremony, it’s an “I do” and they kiss. This is true but what is all that other stuff they are saying and doing up there? This is referred to as the unity ceremony.  This is a demonstration and dedication, joining the bride and groom. There are thousand of ways to join one another. Some are very religious and traditional while others are new age. Here are some ideas that I have gathered.

Unity Candle/Water/Sand ceremonies

The Unity Candle, Sand and Water ceremonies are usually a representation of 2 coming together as one. It is impossible to separate the two once they are mixed.

The following is a beautiful symbol including the whole family, each member pouring separate colored sand into a jar. They are united together.

Tying of the knot

The fisherman knot represent the 2 cords coming together, the knot represents marriage, symbolizing strength. As stress is applied the knot becomes even stronger.

Planting of a tree

There are many variations are out there of this. Some couples will take dirt from childhood homes.  Some will also ask their parents to water it as a symbol for they way they have influenced and encouraged love. The tree can be transplanted later at the newlywed’s home, symbolizing putting down roots and strength within the marriage.

Red string

Originating in East Asia red string is wrapped and tied around the little fingers. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of time, place, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break.

Hand joining

Hand joining is very similar to the finger cord.

Chocolate

By sharing chocolate with one other, you promise to always be present for each other, in darkness and light, in sweet and bitter, in dismal and delicious.

Tasting of the 4 elements

The tasting of the 4 elements represent the sour, the bitter, the hot, and the sweet times of marriage.

Foot washing Ceremony

While this seems to be a very odd ceremony, it is deep with tradition and spirituality. Christian based, many people have different views on the symbolization here. 

Wine lock box

During this ceremony couples will nail a bottle of wine from their wedding day into a wooden box. Many times they will also place love letters to one another inside the box. This box is then opened at their one-year anniversary, 5 year, 10 year. Sometimes it is to be opened during rough patches within the relationship to remind one another of the love they share.

5 Things to Remember When Bringing Kids to a Wedding

1.       Check the invite

Some couples will say “adults only” on their invitation and others will include your children’s names on the envelope. No matter what the couple decides, respect their wishes! If they say no kids, they mean no kids.

2.       Scope out the menu

Are there kid friendly food options on the menu? If there are then you know the couple is planning for kids to be at the reception. If there isn’t going to be a kids’ buffet then make sure you bring extra snacks, or think about leaving the kids at home.

3.       Consider their attention spans

Will your kids be able to sit still or will you be spending the entire ceremony trying to keep them quietly entertained? Consider your kids in this decision too! Make sure that everyone will be able to enjoy themselves.

4.       Pull out their Sunday bests

If you decide that the whole family is going to the wedding everyone is going to need something to wear! Make sure that your kids have outfits that fit them before hand so you aren’t scrambling the night before. 

5.       Is your babysitter free?

Sometimes it’s the most appropriate choice to leave the kids at home. If this is the case, call up your favorite babysitter and order a pizza! Some couples will provide babysitters during the reception, but if this is not an option consider leaving the kids at home or if you’re close by, taking them to a babysitter after the ceremony.
